Biography

A native of Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya, Sherma E. Benosa is a writer-editor and researcher-student who dreams of and is working on becoming an educator..

She attended Bambang North Central School (1986–1991) for her elementary education; Nueva Vizcaya State Polytechnic College, now NVSU, (1991–1995) for her secondary education; and University of the Philippines-Diliman for her baccalaureate degree (BA Linguistics, 1995–1999) and masters degree (MA Language Education, 2004 to present).

She has dabbled in fiction writing in English and a little in Iluko, and some of her works had been published in Philippine Graphics and Rimat, but she is more at home with creative non-fiction.

At present, she is the copy editor of Health and Lifestyle, a glossy full color magazine for medical professionals and health enthusiasts, published monthly by Friendly Alliances and Media Expressions, Inc. (FAME, INC); and does occasional editing/proofreading for Phoenix Publishing House, Inc. (PPHI), publisher of academic books for Filipino students.

Although she has been writing since she was in grade school, it was when she decided to walk away from the corporate world in 2002, out of sheer boredom of routine work, that she seriously considered making writing her life and bread and butter. She crossed over to the publishing industry via working as assistant editor at PPHI for a little more than a year, then finally, by joining FAME, Inc. in 2004.

Because of her linkage with FAME, INC., most of her works during the past two years fall under the broad categories of “medical” and lifestyle. She writes feature and news articles, reviews and profiles. But if given a choice, she would want to delve into fiction writing, children’s literature and travel pieces.

Born on March 25, 1978 to Manuel Domingo Benosa and former Sherly Manzano Espino, Sherma is the eldest and the only female among four siblings.
